SEND

At Winton, we recognise that every child has their own needs and abilities. We embrace our responsibility to help each other and every child fufil their potential, including those were Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).  We ensure that children and young people with SEND recieve an eduaction that enables them to make progress so that they:

  • achieve their best;
  • become confident individuals living fulfilling lives;
  • make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further or higher education, or training.

To support our pupils with SEND at Winton we follow 4 curriculum drivers, which we use to deliver a balanced and nurturing curriculum. These are the key foundations upon which we support all pupils to achieve based on their own abilities and starting points.

Caring:

Our children learn best when they learn in a caring and nurturing environment. Each child is an individual and we respect their individual differences, their strengths and their challenges. Through caring children can make progress that is relevant to them. We also support our children to care for themselves and others.

Connections:

Learning is all about making connections between skills and knowledge. We encourage connections between classroom learning and their own lives to make learning relevant, relatable and progressive. To achieve this we do local area trips, encourage practical lessons and put the child at the center of the curriculum.

Communication:

Communication is key to successful social interactions, self-expression and academic progression. We value the importance of turn-taking interactions, developing vocabulary and nurturing comprehension through life experiences and conversational opportunities.

Curiosity & Possibility:

We nurture curiosity and develop pupils’ own intrinsic motivations for learning. This involves creating opportunities to explore the world and to open up learning experiences within the school and in the local community. This creates wider possibilities for all pupils, from all starting points.
