About the Governing Board
Our Governing Board has a range of duties and powers and a general responsibility for the conduct of the schools, with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. Its responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- setting targets for pupil achievement
- managing the schools' finances
- making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based
- appointing staff
- reviewing staff performance and pay.
At the Learning Quarter Partnership, the role of the Governing Board is to work closely with the Executive Headteacher, Associate Headteacher, Headteachers and staff to provide the very best education, environment and care for our school community. As a group, we make decisions concerning staffing, curriculum, premises, pupil safeguarding, and finance.
The Governing Board is made up of representatives of the local authority, parents, staff and members of the local community. Some governors are linked to a specific aspect of LQP life, including safeguarding, Children Looked-After, Health and Safety, EYFS, SEND, and music.
We make visits to the school which enable us to monitor, observe and support these areas for continuous improvement and we meet once a term to discuss these parts of school life in the appropriate subcommittee:
- Teaching and Standards (key responsibilities include: curriculum, acheivement, teaching, learning and assessment, accountability for spending of pupil premium and catch-up grants);
- Finance and Operations (key responsibilities include: finances, human resources, health & safety, premises & facilities);
- Equalities, Engagement and Enrichment (key responsibilities include: personal development & pastoral care, health & wellbeing, behaviour management, extra-curricular & extended day provision, school food, play provision, communications and complaints).
We also meet as a whole group at the Full Governing Board meeting once a term to look at current data and reports, using the information to support the school and develop plans for the future.
