PSHCE at Hugh Myddelton is designed to develop reflection and wonder both internally and about the wider world. It gives children opportunities and a safe space to find their voice and to share their thoughts and feelings. It allows for debate and constructive disagreement between peers and adults. We want to inspire and enable children to be positive communicators who are self-aware and resilient. Our intention is to make children aware of the wider world around them and the varying situations of children and young people across the globe, developing their understanding of being global citizens, instilling empathy and inspiring activism.

PHSE

Hugh Myddelton pupils worked with practicioners from Little Angel Theatre to create this video reflecting on some of the topics we discuss in our PHSE curriculum:

The curriculum aims to provide children with the skills and knowledge necessary to be safe, healthy and confident individuals and responsible citizens who are able to communicate effectively and nurture healthy relationships in all areas of life.

Our PSHE lessons promote group discussion and for children to lead the discussion when possible, building on or challenging the opinions of others. Other sessions encourage self-expression through mindfulness or creativity. In this way, all children have varied opportunities to access and develop their skills and makes the curriculum enjoyable. We value each child’s individual journey through our school and try to ensure that each of their own individual concerns are addressed, their hopes are nurtured and that their diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds are recognised and acknowledged in order to allow all children to develop and thrive.

Children learn about themselves and the world around them, focusing on 3 core themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships (including Sex and Relationships Education) and Living in the Wider World.

We follow the Jigsaw PHSE curriculum.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2023

Children’s Mental Health Week 2023 will take place from 6-12 February 2023. This year’s theme is Let’s Connect. Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connections. People thrive in communities, and this connection is vital for our wellbeing. When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing. For Children’s Mental Health Week 2023, we’re encouraging people to connect with others in healthy, rewarding and meaningful ways. To raise the awareness of this significant week here at Hugh Myddelton, children will take part in a series of activities which aim to increase positive self-esteem and teach children how they can protect their mental health.
